PRINTHAUS Kreuzberg: migration from Shopware 5 to Shopware 6 without downtime

Copyshop 64 on Mehringdamm in Berlin-Kreuzberg had been selling copies, prints and bindings through a Shopware 5 shop for years. As Shopware 5 is no longer developed and the hosting contract was ending, we rebuilt the shop on Shopware 6.7: 39 products, every old URL, the customer accounts – and the old shop kept selling until the switch.
The task
PRINTHAUS Kreuzberg is the online shop of Copyshop 64, run by Mehmet Yasar at Mehringdamm 64 since 2003. Private customers, students, offices and clubs order copies, prints, bindings, flyers, business cards, posters and textile printing; print files received by 3 pm are usually produced the same day. The shop ran on Shopware 5 with an external host. Shopware 5 has not been developed since mid-2024, payment and security updates have stopped, and the hosting contract ended in October 2026. The brief: a shop that looks the same to customers, has the same prices and runs on current technology – with no lost orders and without Google having to discover the site anew.
The implementation
Moving away from Shopware 5 is not an update but a rebuild with data migration. We worked in five steps:
- Inventory: all 39 products, 35 categories, prices, quantity scales and texts of the old shop were read out and recorded – the benchmark the new shop was measured against.
- Rebuild: Shopware 6.7 on our own Hetzner server with daily off-site backups. A custom theme in the shop's colours, fonts served locally, logo, address and opening hours in header and footer. Products as parent products with variants (format, paper, quantity) instead of flat single items; where the old shop showed placeholder prices, there is now “price on request” with a quote button.
- Customer accounts: 13 real accounts with addresses migrated – password hashes were carried over 1:1, so customers log in as before. 25 bot registrations were left behind.
- URLs and Google: 110 redirects for 75 old shop URLs, sitemap, Search Console and Bing from day one. No click from search ends in a dead link.
- Switch without a pause: The new shop was fully approved under a preview address. A script checked every five minutes whether the domain already pointed to the new server, then set certificate, shop URL, cache and sitemap in one go. The old shop kept selling until the last minute.
Result
Lighthouse mobile: 96 of 100 for performance, 100 each for accessibility, best practices and SEO; largest contentful paint after 2.2 seconds. In the four weeks around the switch, Google clicks rose by 50 % and impressions by 25 % compared with the previous month; “Copyshop Mehringdamm” ranks fourth, and Bing shows the shop for the first time since the move. Seven weeks passed from inventory to go-live on 11 October 2026. Change requests now arrive via the customer's WhatsApp group; product photos and further payment methods are being added step by step.
What a migration like this costs
For shops of this size our fixed price applies: €500 once for the rebuild with data migration, then €50 per month plus 2 % of turnover for hosting, backups, updates and the change service. The migration is often eligible for public funding – our funding check clarifies that free of charge.
